Cownose Ray that had a surgical procedure to remove abnormal backside, now residing in the park’s stingray exhibit pool
WHO: Tiny Tim, a baby cownose ray, and Miami Seaquarium
WHAT: Tiny Tim was born with an abnormal backside and a curly tail. His barb was so bent, it was nearly poking his body. The animal care team and veterinarian at the park assessed his condition and determined that he needed to undergo a medical procedure in order to correct this genetic abnormality. Tiny Tim was given a local anesthetic and underwent a surgical procedure in order to remove the barb and tail. Minutes after the medical procedure, Tiny Tim was swimming much better. Tiny Tim along with four other newborn cownose rays are now on display swimming at the state of the art 10,000 gallon interactive Stingray Exhibit and Touch Pool at the park.
