Miami, Fla. – Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez and First Lady Casey DeSantis hosted a listening session in Miami to hear from those who have been personally affected by the ongoing situation in Venezuela and the oppressive Maduro Regime.
“The Venezuelan people have been fighting to rid their country from the grips of a political, economic and humanitarian crisis for decades,” said Lieutenant Governor Nuñez. “Today, I had the opportunity to hear firsthand from some of the most inspiring Venezuelan exiles and leaders. Their resiliency and resolve is to be admired. I strongly believe Maduro’s cruel, tyrannical and oppressive regime is reaching its final days. Together with our Governor and the First Lady, we remain committed to supporting freedom and democracy in Venezuela,”
“Today was an opportunity for Lieutenant Governor Nuñez and I to hear directly from those whose lives have been forever changed by the Maduro regime,” said First Lady DeSantis. “The stories shared truly depict the hardships being experienced by all of those in Venezuela. As a mother, I am especially focused on making the children of Venezuela no longer suffer under the oppressive Maduro dictatorship. We will continue to do everything we can to ensure that there is a new regime in Venezuela, one we can proudly stand with and support.”
The Lieutenant Governor and First Lady were joined at the listening session by Jeanette Rubio, wife of United States Senator Marco Rubio, Tia Diaz-Balart, wife of United States Representative Mario Diaz-Balart, Mayor of Doral Juan Carlos Bermudez, as well as Venezuelan exiles including Dr. Rafael David Gottenger, a prominent surgeon at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
The DeSantis/ Nuñez Administration has made it a top priority to stand against the Maduro regime and to support the people of Venezuela seeking democracy in their country. During a meeting with Vice President Mike Pence and other Florida leaders on February 1st, Governor DeSantis issued a proclamation recognizing Interim President Juan Guaidó as the only legitimate leader in Venezuela and called on the Florida Legislature to follow suit during the 2019 legislative session.
