The Dominican Republic has a great opportunity to plant a regional, hemispheric and global positioning strategy in foreign trade, investments and international relations, due to its geographical position.
These are the conclusions that were produced in the discussion held in the American Chamber of Commerce of the United States, on the theme “Shore up the nearby coast: Case of the Caribbean Basin and Shared Production.”
On the third day of the Dominican Week, the Semana delegation participated in the meeting with a panel of experts, composed of David Lewis, vice president of Manchester Trade; William Malamud, executive vice president of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic; Manuel Tavares, president of the Itabo Industrial Park; and Samuel Conde, president of the Multimodal Port Caucedo.
Lewis considered the geopolitical changes that were considered after China’s arrival in the region, representing a replica for the United States and Latin American countries in terms of preference in the value chain.
He urged the Dominican Republic to identify identified identifiers items can be more competitive and focus on business promotion and level trade and economy and identify specific deliveries according to sectors.
The executive vice president of AMCHAMDR said he will bring supply chains closer to the United States, can generate growth in exports and the generation of associated jobs in that country.
In that sense, he highlighted the advantages that the Dominican Republic has to position itself as a nearshore destination, given the macroeconomic and political stability that, at the same time, affects a strong and economic growth of the economy.
Malamud stressed the importance of the commercial relationship between the Dominican Republic and the United States, which is a bilateral level of almost 14 billion dollars and that brings to the country a tourist market of 2.7 million dollars annually.
With that event, the statistics of the Delegation of Dominican Week culminated, which moved to New York City, where it participated in a cocktail at the new Kahkow USA store, located in the city of Brooklyn.
Semana Dominicana is an initiative led by AMCHAMDR with a view to promoting the Dominican Republic as a trade and investment destination with the United States, its main trading partner. In addition, the event seeks to connect with the diaspora resident in that country, which amounts to almost 2 million Dominicans.
The event, which will be held from September 9 to 13 in the cities of Washington and New York, is marked in its twenty-seventh edition by topics such as tourism, competitiveness, education and culture.
