FNC Occupied 55% of Cable News Audience at 8PM/ET in Total Viewers; CNN Failed to Crack 1 Million Viewers in Primetime
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–FOX News Channel’s (FNC) special coverage of the 2024 New Hampshire primary trounced the competition on cable news, yet again beating the average of CNN and MSNBC combined in primetime viewers, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. FNC was second in overall primetime television, outpacing both ABC and NBC and coming behind only CBS.
In the 8 PM/ET hour, when each network called former President Donald Trump’s win, FNC delivered 4 million viewers and 521,000 in the 25-54 demo, beating CNN and MSNBC combined in viewership. The hour rounded out the top three highest-rated in all of television, coming behind only Celebrity Jeopardy and NCIS and occupied 55% of the audience share among the 8PM/ET timeslot in cable news. At 9PM/ET, FNC’s special coverage continued with 3.7 million viewers and 495,000 in the demo, again besting CNN (1 million viewers; 257,000 A25-54) and MSNBC (1.77 million viewers; 242,000 A25-54) combined. Helmed by chief political anchor Special Report’s Bret Baier and anchor and executive editor of The Story Martha MacCallum, FNC’s Democracy 2024: New Hampshire Primary from 10PM-12AM/ET averaged 1.9 million viewers 293,000 in the 25-54 demographic, again beating the competition more than combined in viewers.
Altogether, FNC’s primetime coverage from 8-11PM/ET delivered 3.3 million viewers and 453,000 in the 25-54 younger demo. In primetime, FNC more than tripled CNN’s (994,000 P2+) and crushed the network in the 25-54 demo (246,000 A25-54). Additionally, FNC nearly doubled MSNBC in both categories (1.75 million P2+ and 237,000 A25-54.) FNC also nearly doubled its primetime audience versus 2012, posting a 45% increase in viewership, while CNN was down double-digits in both categories and lost 39% in the 25-54 demo.
FNC’s coverage of the 2024 New Hampshire dominated in total day, averaging 1.7 million viewers and 208,000 in the 25-54 demo from 3-3AM/ET. The network made viewership gains versus last week’s caucus in Iowa, growing its audience among every category.
