“While others are tearing statues of our founding fathers down, Florida is putting them up,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Thomas Jefferson was a critical figure in the formation of our country, especially in drafting the Declaration of Independence. In Florida, we celebrate the Founding Fathers.”
The event marked the second in a series of statue unveilings planned across Florida counties named for America’s founders. Statues will also be installed in Washington, Franklin, Hamilton, Madison, and Monroe Counties over the next year. Many other events and celebrations are planned and will ramp up across Florida all year in celebration of next year’s semiquincentennial.
Governor DeSantis underscored Thomas Jefferson’s legacy as the “Father of the Declaration of Independence,” whose words provided moral clarity and philosophical weight to America’s pursuit of liberty. The Governor also emphasized Jefferson’s commitment to religious freedom, civic virtue, and education—principles that continue to shape Florida’s approach to civic instruction.
Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida has made historic investments in civic education to ensure students understand and appreciate the nation’s founding principles.
In 2021, the Governor signed legislation establishing the Civics Literacy Excellence Initiative, a $129 million program that has supported the expansion of civics curriculum at all grade levels and created the Civics Seal of Excellence Endorsement for Florida teachers. To date, more than 21,000 teachers have participated in the program, with over 3,700 more on the waitlist. The state has awarded over $59 million in teacher stipends to recognize their commitment to fostering civic literacy.
Earlier this week, Governor DeSantis signed Florida’s Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget, which includes an additional $7.4 million to further expand civic literacy and debate programs across the state.
The Governor also announced the launch of America250FL.com, Florida’s official hub for the yearlong commemoration. The site offers Floridians opportunities to:

]]>The key to a company’s success will depend largely on maintaining motivation and commitment among employees. According to a Bumeran study conducted in 2023, 78% of Peruvians reported having experienced the feeling of burnout in their workplaces. In addition, the same study indicated that this figure represents an increase of 12% compared to 2022. Marco Huerta, an undergraduate and postgraduate professor at Le Cordon Bleu University, comments that the increase in the incidence of problems related to burnout is a reflection of the stress faced by workers in companies today.
«The well-being of employees is fundamental and has a direct impact on the productivity and success of the company. Therefore, it is important that organizations maintain a positive work environment, where employees can develop and demonstrate their skills to the fullest. Likewise, companies today also value talents with soft skills such as effective communication, adaptability, critical thinking and problem solving, emotional intelligence, among others,» said Huertas.
Against this backdrop, the Le Cordon Bleu University professor highlights 5 other advantages of keeping the work team motivated:
1. Reduced staff turnover: When employees feel valued and motivated within a company, they are less likely to look for other opportunities. This not only saves hiring costs, but also maintains consistency in work teams.
2. Improved work environment: A motivated team generates a positive and collaborative environment. Motivated employees tend to be more optimistic and proactive, which creates an organizational culture where everyone supports each other.
3. Increased innovation and creativity: Motivation drives employees to come up with new ideas and experiment with different approaches. This is essential to keep the company competitive and adaptable to market changes.
4. Commitment to quality and continuous improvement: Motivation within organizations results in a greater sense of belonging on the part of employees, who focus on performing their work optimally and seek ways to improve processes, contributing to the continuous improvement of the organization.
Finally, Marco Huertas stresses the importance of people continuing to enhance their soft skills, since the ability to communicate, adapt, identify problems, resolve conflicts and lead empathetically is key to face the challenges of a constantly changing business environment and are skills that have sustained companies in difficult times and have allowed them to grow beyond what we imagine.
]]>Florida’s private sector employment increased by 28,100 jobs over the month in November 2022, an increase of 0.3 percent. Florida’s total private sector employment increased by 5.2 percent (+420,700 jobs) over the year in November 2022, faster than the national private sector job growth rate of 3.6 percent over the same time period. Florida employers have added jobs for 31 consecutive months in November 2022.
“Florida’s continued success over the past two years is no accident. No matter the challenges, we have stayed on offense,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Florida’s economy is outpacing the nation for the second consecutive year because we have invested in our workforce and prioritized keeping Floridians at work and businesses open. As the new year approaches, we will continue investing in our workforce and infrastructure to create jobs and keep our economy moving forward.”
“While D.C. liberals and blue states are still exacerbating their self-inflicted inflation and supply chain woes, Governor DeSantis has continued his charge for Freedom First policies, and as a result Florida is literally hedging against a recession, growing its workforce, supporting new businesses and innovation, and leading the nation’s economic recovery,” said DEO Secretary Dane Eagle. “People vote with their feet, and folks are running to the free state of Florida as fast as they can.”
In November 2022, Florida’s labor force grew by 7,000 (+0.1 percent), while the national labor force declined by 0.1 percent over the month. Florida’s labor force grew by 352,000, or 3.4 percent, over the year in November 2022, more than double the national labor force growth rate of 1.5 percent over the same time period. In November 2022, Florida’s labor force participation rate was 59.5 percent, down 0.1 percent over the month, but up 1.0 percent over the year.
The leisure and hospitality sector gained the most jobs among all major industries — a great sign for an industry that is often the most reactive to challenges like hurricanes — adding 9,600 jobs (+0.7 percent) over the month, followed by education and health services adding 6,200 jobs (+0.4 percent) and construction adding 5,400 jobs (+0.9 percent).
Data in the month of November continues to indicate there are many job opportunities available for Floridians throughout the state, with more than 455,000 jobs posted online. Floridians in search of work and new job opportunities are encouraged to turn to the CareerSource Florida network for help. Floridians can find guidance on how to register with Employ Florida and search listings of available local job openings. Career seekers also can improve their employability by perfecting resume writing and interviewing skills, establishing career goals, and pursuing customized career training. “By keeping Florida free and open, we have created a positive economic environment and invested in our state’s workforce and communities,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “As a result, Florida is leading the nation in net migration and talent attraction. As other states continue to struggle at the hands of poor leadership, people and businesses are flocking to Florida.”
“Each Floridian benefits when our state is providing high-paying jobs in growth fields that will boost our economy for years to come,” said Florida Deputy Secretary of Commerce Laura DiBella. “The proof is everywhere as counties big and small are growing and thriving thanks to the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis who has prioritized aligning employee training and education with local workforce needs.”
This is the seventh year Lightcast has prepared the scorecard. The report measures seven growth areas of the most recent five-year period including net migration of counties adding new residents, education attainment, job creation, skilled job creation, competitive effect, and average annual job openings.
Highlights show successful job creation and growth across the state in counties big and small:
“Florida’s #1 ranking in talent attraction and net migration is proof that Governor DeSantis’ Freedom First policies work. Businesses and families move to Florida because they know our state is the best place to grow. The state’s unemployment rate remains low, while private sector employment and job growth continue to soar,” said Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) Secretary Dane Eagle. “DEO is proud to work with Enterprise Florida and other state partners to help bring Governor DeSantis’ vision of a strong, resilient Florida workforce to fruition. We will continue to make smart, strategic investments to meet the workforce demands of Florida businesses and keep the state’s economy strong.”
“The latest Lightcast Talent Attraction Scorecard’s ranking of Florida as the No. 1 state for attracting and developing talent further proves that Governor Ron DeSantis’ leadership has well-positioned our state for continued economic growth,” said CareerSource Florida President and CEO Michelle Dennard. “Florida’s wide margin in net migration over other states demonstrates what Florida residents know to be true – Florida is the top destination for quality of life as well as a great state to build or grow a business.”
“Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida has laid the groundwork for lasting success,” said Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. “Our number one ranking for talent attraction is more proof that we are on the right track when it comes to education and economics. We stand ready to build on our successes and continue moving forward for the benefit of all Floridians.”

]]>The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping aims to advance the maritime industry’s transition to a low carbon future through collaboration across the entire value chain, with the long-term ambition of reaching zero carbon shipping by 2050. Together with its partners, the center is facilitating the development and implementation of sustainable solutions, new technologies and viable transition pathways while driving needed policies and regulations to enable the transition.
This shared vision closely aligns with Carnival Corporation’s own decarbonization goals and aspiration to achieve net carbon-neutral ship operations by 2050. To achieve this, the company is partnering with key organizations to help identify and scale new technologies not yet ready for the cruise industry.
“We look forward to working with a strong alliance of some of the best minds in science, engineering and business who share our long-term ambition for a successful and sustainable decarbonization of the global maritime industry,” said Tom Strang, senior vice president of maritime affairs for Carnival Corporation. “At Carnival Corporation, our highest responsibility and top priority is always compliance, environmental protection, and the health, safety and well-being of our guests, the people in the communities we visit and serve, and our shipboard and shoreside personnel.”
Added Strang: “As part of our commitment to decarbonization and carbon footprint reduction efforts, we are continuing to innovate to effect change, and joining the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping is another important step as we continue our ongoing focus to establish a path to zero emission cruising over time.”
Through the partnership, Carnival Corporation will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry players and like-minded organizations across the energy and shipping sectors, and have access to learnings, knowledge, and research and development activities for identifying viable decarbonization pathways. Partners of the center comprise over 40 companies, including global stakeholders from a variety of shipping-related industries such as fuel suppliers, marine classification societies, shipping companies, engineering and manufacturing companies, energy companies and more.
Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, the center was established in 2020 as an independent player in the maritime eco-system to leverage the power of industry collaboration to help accelerate and contribute to the decarbonization of the global maritime industry. The center’s strategic objectives include setting the course for a sustainable industry transition; driving collaboration and applied research and innovation; and advocating for regulatory reform, transparency and accountability that will ensure a level playing field and that long-term sustainable solutions are implemented.
Carnival Corporation remains focused on its commitment and efforts to establish a pathway to decarbonization, as part of its longer-term sustainability plan and vision. This includes goals and aspirations for 2030 and beyond that are guided by six critical sustainability focus areas, including climate action; circular economy; sustainable tourism; good health and well-being; diversity, equity and inclusion; and biodiversity and conservation. Among these priorities, the company and its brands have committed to reducing carbon emission intensity by 40% by 2030 and have long-term aspirations to achieve net carbon-neutral ship operations by 2050.
Following a peak in absolute carbon emissions in 2011, despite significant capacity growth since that time, the company is continuing initiatives to reduce emissions over time and identify a pathway to decarbonization. As part of this commitment, the company is working toward transitioning its energy needs to alternative fuels and investing in new low-carbon or zero-carbon emission technologies, in addition to partnering with various organizations and stakeholders to support and accelerate decarbonization efforts.
As part of its plan for carbon footprint reduction, the company leads the cruise industry’s use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to power cruise ships, with a total of 11 next-generation, LNG-enabled cruise ships that will have joined the fleet through 2025. The company also pioneered the use of Advanced Air Quality Systems on board its ships, with over 90% of its non-LNG ships now equipped with these advanced systems.
In addition, over 45% of its fleet has been equipped with shore-power capabilities, enabling ships to use shoreside electric power where available while in port. The company is also actively involved in investing in and supporting the transition to alternative fuels and technologies, such as biofuels, large scale batteries and fuel cells.
These efforts, along with a series of others underway, support and strengthen Carnival Corporation’s commitment to sustainability, responsible operations and protecting the environment, as outlined in its comprehensive set of 2030 goals and aspirations for 2050. More information on the company’s sustainability efforts is available at www.CarnivalSustainability.com.
