]]>MIAMI, Florida. October 2024.- Celebrating its 31st anniversary with very positive achievements, trade missions, networking, conferences, activities, and successful events, the Dominican International Business & Tourism Chamber Florida, Inc., with support from the Dominican Federation of Chambers and Organizations Abroad, Inc., based in Washington, D.C. and New York—along with other organizations from the Dominican Republic and Florida—is organizing the «2024 Real Estate, Business, Tourism, and Investment Expo» next month, from Friday, November 15 to Sunday, November 17, expecting more than three thousand visitors from different nationalities.
The Chamber President, Pedro Díaz Ballester, announced that the event will take place at the AC Hotel Miami at Dadeland Mall, located at the famous intersection of Kendall Drive (88th Street), the Palmetto Expressway, and US 1 Highway, highlighting the importance of “Location, Location, Location,” which is the first thing to consider in real estate, business, and investments. For this occasion, major companies and institutions with attractive offers of various products and services, especially from the east side, have enthusiastically joined the Expo Fair, increasing opportunities in real estate, logistics, international trade, marketing, finance, tourism, and investments.
“Our Chamber encourages you to do business and attract investments from the powerful residents of KENDALL, CORAL GABLES, COCOPLUM, DOWNTOWN DADELAND, KENDALL LAKES, HAMMOCKS, SOUTH MIAMI, PINECREST, DEERING ESTATES, PALMETTO BAY, CORAL GATES, and other nearby areas, whose residents have some of the highest incomes and buying power in all of Miami-Dade,” he emphasized.
This major event will bring together entrepreneurs, executives, professionals, investors, and leaders, promoting investment and trade opportunities between the Dominican Republic and Florida, with a focus on Miami-Dade, facilitating interaction between exhibitors and attendees, activating business opportunities, establishing valuable contacts, and fostering commercial growth.
“Also, since the Mall is right next to the Palmetto, it’s just minutes away from DORAL, WESTCHESTER, WEST MIAMI, HIALEAH, BROWARD, etc., especially on weekends, so this essentially means a very broad audience that will have the valuable opportunity to present and showcase their offerings in real estate, business, tourism, international trade, finance, and investments,” said Diaz Ballester.
“Dominican Republic is in vogue”:
The president of the Dominican International Business and Tourism Chamber pointed out that they aim to connect buyers with sellers, including Dominican and American investors, as well as Hispanics interested in acquiring goods, products, services, or activating joint ventures, representations, and partnerships. The participating companies and institutions come from various sectors of international trade, real estate, tourism, agribusiness, food, among others.
Diaz Ballester stated that the Dominican Republic is one of the main countries experiencing economic growth in the Americas, which is a significant factor in attracting foreign investment, not only as a traditional exporter of coffee, sugar, and tobacco, but especially in sectors like tourism, telecommunications, construction, health, and free trade zones, which diversify the local offerings.
Exhibitors will be able to invite potential clients from South Florida and nearby areas for the opening with officials, congress members, mayors, Chambers of Commerce, Associations, and Media, as well as throughout the weekend with attractive activities. They will make new connections at the MEET and NETWORK event with entrepreneurs, small businesses, corporations, representatives from the official sector, promoters, real estate agents, and experts in dynamic economic sectors.
Attractive activities:
The “Dominican Real Estate, Business, Tourism, and Investment Expo” will feature conferences and panels presenting investment opportunities, an inaugural reception, recognitions, networking, as well as other events covering a broad program of activities over those three days, where influential figures from both the public and private sectors will come together.
The “Real Estate, Tourism, Business, and Investment Expo” will kick off on Friday, November 15, at 6:00 PM, with a business reception that will include recognition awards for companies, institutions, and individuals for their support of the Chamber and/or their contributions to business between Miami and Florida with the Dominican Republic.
The activities prior to the opening of the Expo and Conferences will begin that Friday at 4 PM with the panel “International Trade, Agribusiness, Commerce, Transportation, and Logistics between South Florida and the Dominican Republic.” I emphasize the key presentations in Spanish and English on “Investment Opportunities in Real Estate and Tourism in the Dominican Republic” during that weekend.
I highlight that a true Dominican atmosphere can’t be without the joy that characterizes us, which is why there will be live music with Maestro Alejandro Vargas, raffles for trips and vacations to Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo, and other enticing destinations in the Dominican Republic, and more will be present during the Fair, from November 15 to 17, at Dadeland Mall.
Diaspora and international investors:
Diaz Ballester, recognized nationally and internationally for his initiatives over almost five decades, particularly for the development of relationships between the Dominican Republic and the United States, with an emphasis on Florida, highlighted that the awards presented will impact thousands of Dominicans abroad. They will be able to witness the event through presentations organized in several cities, aimed at ensuring the diaspora is informed and enjoys the event and its content, which will serve as information, guidance, and motivation while also boosting confidence for entrepreneurs, executives, and international investors.
The DOMINICAN FEDERATION of CHAMBERS and ORGANIZATIONS abroad (a nonprofit organization), active in Washington, D.C., New York, Toronto, Montreal, Madrid, Barcelona, Castellón, among other cities, along with the DOMINICAN INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER of BUSINESS & TOURISM, Inc., in Miami and Orlando, are coordinating these presentations while celebrating their 31st Anniversary.
IN CELEBRATION OF GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS
Pedro J. Diaz Ballester’s business initiatives are marking their first “46 years of Productive Dynamism,” during which he has created, developed, marketed, and promoted Specialized Media and Business Events; provided advisory services at private, ministerial, and presidential levels regarding investments, relations, and international business. He has also founded and led various trade, leadership, and development organizations, both nationally and internationally, particularly promoting business, tourism, and investments abroad, lauded by a former President as “Beneficial for the image of the Dominican Community Abroad and the Dominican Economy.”
Diaz Ballester continues to be the Dominican abroad with the most recognitions for his work, receiving the 17th international award in just the past four years, granted by Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar from Washington, D.C.

]]>IBTM World 2023 will include new and exciting elements and a targeted education programme to reflect the changing needs of attendees. Business culture thrives when we are together, and the event’s mission is to provide a space for this culture to grow; especially important given our more isolated professional and personal lives. IBTM World will feature purpose-driven content to optimise attendees’ time and ensure every moment is a catalyst for growth and inspiration.
New look education
Visitors to this year’s event will find a reinvigorated education programme, with five distinct feature areas all serving different needs: the Main Stage, the Impact Stage, Workplace Revolution, ReFuel and the Associations Leaders’ Forum, with the show’s cultural theme embedded into each pillar.
The Impact Stage will make its debut this year, acting as the best-in-class showcase for the exciting work that Destinations, Hotels, and Tech suppliers are doing across sustainability, D&I, experience design & more. Destination sessions will be curated by The Business Of Events, the Global Think Tank and Policy Platform for the business events industry, and will also feature the launch of the annual Global Destination Report. Sessions will be fast-paced and value-led, lasting no longer than 20-minutes and in the form of case studies and best-practice, allowing Hosted Buyers to glean maximum value between meetings.
Also new this year is Workplace Revolution – a welcoming space where attendees can make the valuable connections they weren’t expecting. Here they can continue conversations in a relaxed setting with inspirational figures (including speakers from the main stage), dissect topics in greater detail and ask those burning questions. With a amenities, comfortable seating and informal campfire-style atmosphere, this is the place for people to come together, connect and enjoy key aspects of business culture that they might well be missing with the increase in working from home.
In recognition of the importance of wellbeing, especially at busy trade shows like IBTM World, and the increasing pressures that we all face in our daily lives, IBTM’s wellbeing hub has re-branded to ‘ReFuel’. A zen-like pod which allows attendees time and space to relax and recharge their physical and mental batteries, it includes a wellbeing bar, sound and aromatherapy healing and solo working area to provide respite from a busy show floor.
The Association Leaders’ Forum (ALF) will be back on day one to help associations increase the impact of their gatherings around the globe and conquer challenges to achieve success in 2024 and beyond.
The Main Stage remains a fixture of the IBTM World Programme with inspiring figures from inside, and outside of the events industry, taking to the stage to tackle the latest topics and trends through inspirational keynotes, panel debates, and game-changing research. New to the Main Stage this year will be an afternoon of inspiring and empowering marketing content, curated in partnership with experts at The Thought Partnership, who have led content and marketing at businesses including Cannes Lions and Dow Jones.
Strong exhibitor sales
An incredible 60 per cent of the floor space for this year’s IBTM World has already been sold, surpassing this stage in 2019 and demonstrating a strong appetite for the event and a positive outlook for the industry. Exhibiting destinations include The Croatian National Tourist Board – a rising star of the European meetings industry; Meet Boston, which is launching their new brand at the event; and Enit Agenzia Nazionale del Turismo returns – which will return with a strong regional presence along with multiple private companies, and Meet In Ireland, who will return with 35+ suppliers from across the island of Ireland.
Melia Hotels International will attend to launch its new hotel in Barcelona, and Romania’s Backstage Production Group, a full-service event production company, will be joining for the first time.
On the Hosted Buyer side, major international associations have already confirmed their attendance including the European Society of Cardiology, International Association for Enterprise Information Systems, United Networks of International Event Organisers (UNICEO), World Energy Council, and the China Electronics Chamber Of Commerce.
Multinational corporations include DELL Tech; Forbes; Intel; Michelin; Delta Air Lines, Sportradar, Puma Sports, Citigroup Inc, Amex GBT, Aareal Bank AG, and Zalando.
Event agencies in attendance will be Aim Group International, BCD Meetings & Events, CWT Meetings & Events, Helmsbriscoe, HPN Global, Kuoni Global Travel Services AG, TUI, Opus Agency, Morris Meetings & Events, and VOYEL.
David Thompson, Event Director, IBTM World, comments: “Business events can be a profound force for change; both economic and social. Events have the power to bring better business results and drive forward agendas around important initiatives. Events are also a place to build communities and create vibrant and positive cultures which are sorely missing from modern working. This year, we’re on a mission to show business the true power of events and shine a spotlight on the #culturecreators who run them.”
]]>While that’s seemingly good for the HVAC industry, it cuts both ways.
With high oil prices pushing up the cost of producing electricity and pressure to find alternatives to hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which used to be the go-to refrigerant in air conditioners and refrigeration units but also have a high global-warming potential, the industry has been looking for new ways to do business.
“We’re searching for electrical efficiency. We’re trying to reduce the power needed to make our systems work,” said Gildardo Yáñez Angli, a refrigeration specialist at Bohn México. “We also hope to mitigate the impact on global warming and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
“Air conditioning and refrigeration have used refrigerants with a high warming potential. When they’re released in the air, they stop behaving as refrigerants but rather act as greenhouse gases,” he said.
Replacing HFCs creates an opportunity to increase cooling equipment efficiency by 10 to 50 percent, thus reducing costs to businesses and consumers, according to the United Nations Ozone Secretariat.
During RefriAmericas, a two-day conference and exhibition that will bring some 1,000 participants in the climatization and refrigeration industries to Miami on July 20-21, Yáñez will speak about the new generation of refrigerants – some natural, some synthetic – aimed at “reducing the impact on the planet.” Among those refrigerants are ammonia, carbon dioxide, propane, and isobutane, he said.
“In Mexico, we’re already using these new technologies,” Yáñez said. Because of safety and environmental concerns, the United States has been slower to adopt them.
The industry also is exploring the use of solar and wind power to improve energy efficiency in its machines. Smart buildings, which produce and consume energy on site, also will be an important part of the industry’s future.
As the HVAC and refrigeration industries adopt new technologies, Yáñez said there will be strong demand for new talent.
“On the refrigeration side, you’ll always have work and a long career,” he said. “Everyone needs to be cool. Refrigeration matters. Seventy to 75 percent of the food we consume needs to go through refrigeration or some part of the cold chain.”

]]>“I think this is a gesture that would go far to help in healing those deep wounds that still exist in our society. We’ve celebrated Juneteenth on a small scale here in Broward County. Many other communities across the nation are now officially celebrating the end of enslaved African people on Juneteenth,” said Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness, who brought the request to the Commission.
Recently, the State of New York, Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts declared June 19th an official state holiday. New York City, Portland, Miami-Dade County, Tamarac, and Pembroke Pines have also approved June 19th as an official paid holiday. The only three states yet to legally recognize Juneteenth as either a state or ceremonial holiday are Hawaii, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Many national companies also promise to recognize Juneteenth as a paid company holiday including Best Buy, J.C. Penney, Uber, Lyft, the NFL, Nike, Postmates, Spotify, Twitter, and Square.
“From at least 1619 until 1861, enslaved Africans labored and toiled to build this Country, with whips on their backs and chains on their necks and their legs. Plus, the lives that were lost. How many trillions of dollars did that contribute to the building of this Country? You can’t calculate that. This is already in our budget. We’re talking about $130,000 more for overtime out of a $5.3 billion budget,” noted Commissioner Holness.
The Broward Office of Management and Budget estimated the total cost of salaries for County employees for one day’s paid holiday is $1.3 million, which is currently budgeted. Premium overtime pay for essential services at the airport, port, water and wastewater and transit that must remain operational every day is $130,000 based on a past holiday and is not currently budgeted.
Commissioners directed the County Attorney to draft a resolution for further discussion and a vote at a future date.
