Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 2015 Celebration
[Miami, Florida – May 22, 2015] May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is a celebration of the contributions and progress made by the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in Florida and across the country.
This year’s theme is “Many Cultures, One Voice: Promote Equality and Inclusion.”
On May 30, in partnership with NANAY, NANAY Community Economic Development Corporation (NANAY CEDC) and Region IV of U. S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), the Asian American Federation of Florida (AAFF) will host the first “AAPI Housing Opportunities Fair” to celebrate the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in Miami.
The AAPI Housing Opportunities Fair will be held from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May 30, at NANAY Community Center – 659 NE 125 Street, North Miami, FL, 33161. In addition to housing opportunities and rights information, this workshop will also provide an opportunity to learn more about equal employment opportunities and small business loans. Admission is free.
“Generations of Asian and Pacific Islander immigrants have come to America in search of their American dreams,” says Winnie Tang, President of AAFF, “Different countries, languages and backgrounds did not stop them from pursuing a better life for themselves and their families.”
“Many Asian Pacific Americans have overcome numerous obstacles including racial prejudice, language barriers and economic struggles to realize their tremendous achievements, from serving in our Armed Forces to creating over 22 thousand small businesses with over $6.9 million in revenue here in Miami,” says Winnie Tang. “AAFF is dedicated to promoting the economic and social empowerment of the AAPI community as we work to ensure the passing of comprehensive immigration reform and opportunities for all.”
“As we continue to honor and celebrate the diversity of our Asian Pacific American communities,” says Evelyn Bruce, President of NANAY CEDC. “We continue our work to ensure freedom and equal opportunity for all.”
During the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, there are many celebrations to recognize the rich and diverse traditions and backgrounds of our Asian Pacific American neighbors and friends across the country.
