Agreement with Maersk triplicaría traffic in port of Malaga

The largest shipping company in the world will return to the port of Malaga and its impact is expected to be so positive that the number of containers could triple and, therefore, increase its activity in this segment so in demand.

Recently, Maersk decided to return to the Malaga dock, from which he retired in 2014, causing a 70% drop in activity.

And although the agreement is not yet closed, source Noatum, which exploits Pier 9 today, indicates that they have been talking with the shipping company and the cranes for years.

Other sources indicate that the pact with Maersk will mean, at least, the arrival of 150,000 teus a year. Taking into account that the Malaga port closed last year with 86,233 teus, according to the official information of Puertos del Estado, the total sum could reach up to 236,000.

It would be the largest amount of containers since 2014, and a confirmation of the recovery after the fall of 2015 with 43,369 teus.

Maersk Line has achieved profits of 7,846 million euros in the first quarter of 2018, which means 30.3% more compared to the same months of the previous year.
